Jennifer McGill grew up in a Christian household. She had a loving family who raised her to be involved and active with church activities. And this really convinced her that what she was doing was what Christianity looked like. But like many other young people, Jennifer later realized that her walk with God was superficial.
A Life-changing event
At the age of 20, Jennifer engaged in a one night stand with a guy friend whom she has known for 8 years already. She actually got pregnant from the one time they did it. Not knowing what to do, Jennifer called the father of her baby to help her. Things didn’t turn out as what she had hoped for though. After the call, the father changed his number and she has never heard back from him since then.Â
Becoming a Single Mom
With the father of her baby now out of the picture, Jennifer was forced to face the big responsibility on her own. She decided to continue her pregnancy and raise her child on her own. But becoming a single mom reconnected her to God. She knew that the only way she was going to survive a challenging season was to lean on to God.
Her daughter was born in 2005 and while she loved every bit of her, life was hard especially in the financial aspect. She had bills to pay, needs to meet, daycare to sustain and so on. One time, she was at work in the bank and she just cried at her desk after being overwhelmed by what to do.
She went home and as she lay in bed, she cried out to God and started praying to show her what to do. A miracle then happened when she went to work the next morning. The CFO of the bank handed her an envelope that contained the exact amount that she needed for her payables.
The Turning point
Jennifer recalls it being such a profound moment that it moved her to really step up into that role of a Christian and not just saying it, but really living it and telling others about how God has delivered her from the troubles of her old life.
She continued to live by faith as she got older and as her relationship with God deepened, her prayers also got bolder. She started praying for a husband and God answered her prayers.
Jennifer’s story is proof that no one is too far away for God’s grace and mercy to reach. He is and will always be there.
