Hannah Adeoye was just a young girl when she started having struggles with same-sex attraction. However, her journey to freedom showed just how powerful and mighty God is in delivering His children from a life of sin.
How It All Started
Hannah’s story all began when she was molested around 4 years old by a relative. As a result, she struggled with masturbation and with same-sex attraction. She would often have thoughts and feelings of wanting to be a boy, and even as a young child she felt that something was wrong with her.
When she was just 9 years old, her parents got divorced, causing things to get even harder for Hannah. She went through feelings of anger, shame, abandonment, doubts and being unloved.
She had never told anyone about her struggles before, but at the age of 16, Hannah slowly opened up to her mother about her secrets. Her mother, who is a believer in Christ, responded with grace and love for her daughter. They kept praying together and even formed an accountability partnership. This ultimately led to the disappearance of Hannah’s desires, and the establishing of her faith in God, until she hit a trap of the enemy.
Encountering A Temptation
At 18, Hannah started to attend bible college. Although she was now free from her sexual sin, Hannah started going through abandonment issues, because her mom was dealing with mental health issues, and she had not talked to her father since she was about 13 years old.
In college, Hannah had a desire to help others, especially those who struggled with the same thing that she did before. She soon met a girl who confessed her own same-sex attraction struggles. Hannah wanted to help her overcome it, but things spiraled out of hand very quickly. The two of them ended up spending an unnatural amount of time together, making them codependent of each other. Because of this, Hannah once again became blinded by her desires and started to live a double life. She would serve in church, but when she got home, she would do things with her friend that she shouldn’t be doing.
Ending the sin
Hannah’s eyes eventually opened to the truth after another friend checked up on her. She confessed her sins to this friend, and in response her friend reminded her to do the right thing. So, Hannah ended her relationship, repented to God for her sins, and started afresh. That’s when God revealed to her how He would use her brokenness as a testimony to others.
“Even when we mess up, even when we drive ourselves into the deepest pit, He helps us up and not only does he help us up, He uses our greatest weakness to be our greatest strength in the form of a story.”
