Catherine Calix was born out of wedlock and her dad didn’t want anything to do with her. That experience only made a deep longing for a fatherly love. That’s why when her mother got into a new relationship with a guy, she was ecstatic. Little did she know that the person she would later call stepdad was going to bring harm more than love in her life.
The beginning of the sexual abuse
Catherine’s stepfather was heavily involved with Santeria. But they didn’t think there was anything wrong with him, especially since he would go to church with them and would read the bible. But he later on planted seeds of doubts on her mother, which in turn made them stop going to church altogether.
Catherine was 12 years old when she started having sexual curiosity. It was a result of her stepdad’s employee doing inappropriate things with her. At that time, she had no idea that something was wrong. Her young innocent mind thought that it was kind of how a father would be with his daughter because that guy also had a daughter.
So without any idea, she thought of giving her stepdad a kiss on the lips while he was working out. She then ran back to her room thinking it was all just a father-daughter thing. But her stepdad took advantage of the situation and continued the kiss in a sexual way. Catherine felt weird but her innocence thought it was normal.
The sexual abuse also progressed to more than just kissing and as Catherine started getting older, that’s when she realized that fathers do not do those kind of things with their kids. Because of the shame and fear from getting in trouble, she never told anyone about it.
Walking in a dark path
It was in highschool when Catherine’s stepdad started getting more serious with Santeria. He set up an altar and every morning he would pray before leaving for work. At that time, neither Catherine nor her mother knew that they had opened their home to evil.
It was also during this time when Catherine started feeling like her body was dirty and she carried her secret until she was 16. But one time, she had a facial stroke and her grandmother called up a friend from church to pray for her. This lady, whom she has never met before, started praying for her and during the prayer she kept asking about her relationship with her stepdad. She sensed that something was off, but Catherine just pretended that everything was good.
In sophomore year, Catherine got involved with drinking alcohol, parties and drugs. Her relationship with her mother was also very strained. And just to fill the void in her life, she got into a relationship with another girl. It didn’t end well though and eventually she felt the need to ask for help from the Lord. She was just so sick and tired with her life until she remembered what her grandmother had always told her: “God is always there.”
So she prayed, “God, I don’t know if you’re real. I don’t know if you exist but if you do, I need you to get me out of here. I can’t do this anymore.” From that day on, things started to turn around for Catherine.
The deliverance prayer
After countless invitations from her grandmother, Catherine finally went to church with her. During the altar call, she felt a tug in her heart to just go in front. A guy prayed over her and told her the Lord’s response to her call for help, reassuring her that He is real and that He never left her. Catherine accepted Jesus as her lord and savior that day.
She started to change her life and started working on her relationship with her mother, who eventually got saved as well. At that point, her mother was no longer with her stepdad. But Catherine later on discovered that her stepdad had been doing witchcraft on her and her mom.
The Lord revealed to them that the guy had them in bondage in a relationship with him. But by the power of the Holy Spirit, the bondage has been cut and Catherine is now a new creation.
