Jason Biddle had a promising career in baseball, but an injury led him to stop. That’s when he turned to alcohol and drugs. This is his testimony of how God delivered him from his own destruction.
The start of the substance abuse
After Jason’s injury, he got into construction work where he earned a decent amount each week. Money quickly became his new love, spending frivolously on whatever he wanted, much of that being alcohol.
Soon he became obsessed with bodybuilding and started taking the painkiller Nubain to relieve muscular pain. It didn’t take long for addiction to set in and working out was now just about shooting up Nubain. One particular time Jason accidentally hit a vein, and it was the best high he’d ever had.
Knowing about God
Jason later on got married to a woman named Brittany. Unfortunately Brittany was not aware of her husband’s substance abuse until she caught him shooting up in their bathroom. Realizing this was serious she decided to leave him, but Jason talked her into reconciling and their family grew.
A friend then invited them to a spirit-filled church where they heard the gospel for the first time. They both responded with Brittany wanting to know more about God and Jason raising his hand during the altar call.
The Wake-up Call
Jason was sober for a while after responding to God, but due to his years of alcohol and drug abuse, his liver now had to undergo surgery to remove a tumor. Jason was also told by the doctor to never drink again, but within the first week he went to the liquor store and snuck out drinking alcohol.
One weekend, while Brittany was away from home, she received a call from her son who told her he couldn’t wake Jason up. Brittany took the first flight home and found out her husband was critically ill. He thankfully recovered from his overdose, but Brittany decided to leave him again.
A new creation
After his wife left him Jason started talking to God again. In true brokenness, He just surrendered his life to Jesus. He entered rehab at Redemption House in Minnesota where he started to realize the many idols he had developed in life such as pride, control, and the love of money.
He also got the chance to write songs with another resident while in rehab. God opened up doors for a music ministry where he got to share his testimony of deliverance and the gospel through his songs.
Today, Jason is a new creation. He is now sober and clean for good. And in God’s goodness, He put the pieces of Jason’s life back together including his marriage, and his focus is now to live for God’s glory.
