Mariah was only 18 years old when she gave in to prostitution to earn money for drugs. From there, she just felt so much emptiness. But God is never far away from those who have gone astray. This is her testimony of deliverance and how God turned her life around.
The Root of the Hurt
As a preteen, Mariah was verbally abused by a person that she loved. Hurtful words were constantly thrown at her that by the age of 9, she already attempted a suicide. She started to cut herself and throw up her food. She was then put on a lot of psychotropic medications that really messed up her mind.
She described feeling a cloud of darkness come over her because of what she was going through. Not long after, she went even deeper into a pit, drinking alcohol and smoking weed. When that no longer satisfied her, she moved on to other drugs.
The Turning Point
By 16, Mariah was doing cocaine, by 17 she had an abortion. By 18, prostitution became a last resort to earn money for drugs.
At this point, she was already feeling so hopeless, empty and dark. And then one day, a man came over to purchase her but instead of getting money, she was rejected.
“I had track marks everywhere. I just looked disgusting. I was maybe 80 pounds. He just said ‘I’m not paying for this.’ That was the moment for me,” Mariah said. “I can’t even prostitute anymore to feed this habit.”
Little did she know that it was going to be the beginning of something. Mariah’s childhood best friend kept forcing her to go into a Christian program. She agreed, and it took three months for her body to stabilize. She went through a painful process of withdrawal for 9 months, including not being able to sleep.
Prayers of Deliverance
During her detox, she relapsed and went back to cutting herself. But the leaders from the program prayed for her to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That’s when she experienced God like never before.
“It felt like this liquid love just poured into my body, like I literally felt the Holy Spirit come into my body.”
After that, Mariah had the best 8 hours of sleep for the first time, and she woke up praising God. Her journey of faith began and the more she soaked in the word, the more she grew. The former prostitute and drug addict is now the one being approached for encouragement. She is also now a wife and a mother of two. Truly, no one is too far from the Lord’s grace.
